HCFA Goes To Sacramento

Staff from HCFA had the opportunity to participate in the event “9-1-1 Goes to Sacramento” April 29th - May 1st.   Our staff had the privilege to meet with State of California legislators and discuss the responsibilities of 9-1-1- dispatchers and advocate for the profession.    Staff from HCFA got to meet with staff for Assembly Member Boerner (77th District), Assembly Member Rivas (43rd District), Assembly Member Maienschein (76th District), Assembly Member McKinnor (61st District), Assembly Member Davies (74th District), and Assembly Member Rendon (62nd District) just to name a few.

HCFA Staff, North County, Coronado, CHP and State 911 Office members during 911 Goes to Sacramento.

Sheriff Bianco:

Staff from HCFA had an opportunity to meet Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and talk about the 9-1-1 system and how Fire / EMS Dispatchers interact with their LE Counterparts.   We even took the opportunity to invite Sheriff Bianco to our communications center for a tour / visit.

CHP Dispatch – State Capitol:

Staff from HCFA, North Comm, Coronado PD, Metro Fire, and the State 9-1-1 office had the opportunity to tour the California Highway Patrol ECC that covers the State Capitol.   It was a great opportunity to learn what their job entails, and two of the dispatchers on duty were formally from San Diego CHP dispatch.

California Office of Emergency – State Operations Center:   While in Sacramento, HCFA staff got to tour the Governors Office of Emergency Services State Operations Center (SOC).  Our staff was thrilled to learn more about the large scale emergency operations center for the State of California and how they support all of the local agencies during times of emergency.   It was an eye opening experience to see how our 9-1-1 responsibilities tie into the larger state mission during period of significant emergency activity.

HCFA Staff Outside State Capitol Building:

Traveling to Sacramento with Executive Director Jeff Logan were shift supervisors Shelby Ortmeier, Shannon Hays and dispatcher Hannah Caldwell. Director Logan hopes send staff to this event every year so HCFA staff can stay engaged with legislators on statewide initiatives that effect the 911 profession.
